Fire Compartment

Dividing a building into a series of smoke and fire compartments will contain fire spread and increase invaluable time for personnel evacuation.

At design stage fire walls and floors are set out in order to achieve fire compartmentation that meets current regulations.

However, service penetrations compromise their integrity and need to be sealed to prevent the escape of fire/smoke.

Materials used to seal around wall and floor penetrations, if properly installed, will help prevent fire/smoke escaping from a compartment for up to four hours, giving vital time for occupants to escape and fire fighters time to control the fire.

There are a number of factors to be considered in order to install the correct system to provide the required compartmentation, and there are a variety of manufacturers supplying a wide range of products for these purposes, some more cost effective than offers.
